Grooming at Home

Groomers are currently shut down until further notice due to COVID-19 and are therefore asking pet-owners to keep up with these grooming tips until they re-open.

I have made a list of our main grooming at home routine for you to follow as well as included the products we use (they can all be purchased from Ren’s Pet Depot in Oakville). This is also good to follow for anytime your fur baby needs a visit until you can get them in. You can follow the steps below or do any of them on their own. I am sure treats happen many times in your house without any grooming necessary but I have included as an extremely necessary step with grooming our Audrey.

Groomers recommend to not cut the hair yourself. Instead, brush out as needed – this could be daily or weekly depending on your pooch, their current hair length and activity level. We use JW soft slicker brush.

Next, trim around the eyes, bum area and under/between paw pads with small scissors. We use Arnaf 4” scissors.

Possibly the most important step – grind or cut nails. Audrey has dark nails so I am very wary to cut them myself. We use a grinder on her nails and that way I don’t have to worry about hitting her quick and therefore no bloodshed. We use Pedipaws battery operated nail trimmer.

A little added luxury for a soft and clean coat is a nice spray to freshen up after bath or on its own after a long walk. We use Earthbath deodorizing and conditioning spray.

Last, but certainly not least, a yummy treat – we get this out and put it in plain sight before we get started so that Audrey knows goodness is coming right after she’s all done! We use Purebites freeze dried beef liver treats because they are a hit for even the pickiest eaters and easy on the tummy.

Good luck!
